Welcome to Cub Scouts !

When Scouting can help nurture courage and kindness and allow boys to play, to laugh, to develop their imaginations, and to express their feelings, then we will have helped them grow. We want boys to become useful and stable individuals who are aware of their own potential.

Helping a boy to learn the value of his own worth is the greatest gift we can give him!

You are welcome to come attend our monthly Pack meetings
held at St. Edward’s on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:15pm.

Palomar Campout registration open

Posted on May 22 2018 - 10:50am

The Palomar campout is almost here!  It's time to sign up for the most fun you'll have fishing and hiking in a weekend. We will be working on some optional activities for each rank. Use the link below to register.

Please join Pack 705 for a great summer adventure at beautiful Palomar Mountain!  We have a limited number of spots available for this Pack overnighter that is ONLY TWO WEEKS AWAY!!!  Please sign up here https://www.ocpack705.org/node/1756.  Reservations will remain open until all spaces are filled.

I know everyone has a busy schedule, so the purpose of this update is to provide a bit more detail regarding the trip and Palomar Mountain State Park, including a few important notes regarding fishing and firewood.  I am also reminding everyone of a few important items to consider bringing, particularly if you are a first time camper or it has been a long while since your last camping trip.

Palomar Mountain State Park

A campsite map and directions is included with this announcement.  Please familiarize yourself with these materials.  We have reserved two group campsites, Cedar Grove Group Camp Sites 1 and 2, which thankfully are very close to showers and restrooms.  These campsites can hold up to 30 campers, but there is an allowance of only 15 vehicles total for the sites.  Please plan to carpool or bring only one vehicle. I understand there are also day use parking spots for $10 a day.

You may set up your tent at either of the campsites as early as 2:00pm on Friday 6/8/18, and we will all need to be ready to depart by noon on Sunday 6/10/18.

***Fishing***  According to the CA Dept of Fish & Wildlife website (https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FishPlants/Default.aspx?water=Doane+Pond), Doane Pond was last stocked with trout in May.   Please note that there is not a tackle or bait store at Palomar, so if you intend to fish you must bring your own bait and tackle.  Anyone over the age of 16 must have a fishing license.  Licenses are easy to get and can be purchased and printed here: https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Licensing.

***Firewood*** Due to the threat of the Goldspotted Oak Borer spreading throughout San Diego County, no oak firewood may be brought into the campground.  There is firewood available for sale at Palomar, and you may bring your own firewood so long as it is pine, eucalyptus, etc., just no oak!!!  We have a fund that we can use for firewood, and I plan on purchasing a bunch of wood at Palomar on Friday.

Things to Bring

To help ensure everyone has a good time and is as (reasonably) comfortable as possible, I have compiled the below list with the help of Coleman (www.coleman.com/checklists/tent-camping-checklist/).

Camp Cooking (Please note we will have at least one large campsite barbecue for you to use to cook your meals, though some of the items below may be helpful if you intend to cook your own meals.)

Sleeping And Comfort (I can’t tell you enough how important it is to bring something to lie on other than your sleeping bag.  The ground is hard.)
